Objectify This!

In our image-obsessed age, we’re under relentless pressure to subscribe to normative standards of beauty. Through concealment and conformity, we make ourselves up in the reflection of what society finds attractive.

As part of the V&A's Friday Late: Mirror Mirror, artist and activist Lidia Lidia presented a special life drawing event with model Christopher Raymond. Using their objectified bodies and hyper-sexualised props, Lidia devised theatrical sets that played with stereotypical ideas of beauty and gender.

The event was hosted by artist and tutor Leo Crane against the backdrop of the Museum's display of 18th-century fashion. Participants created hundreds of drawings: an amazing array of witty and polemical responses to the theme.
