Live Action

framing the story

Through the brush of master painter Koshu, we leave our contemporary world and flow into the animated landscape of ancient Japan.

The film’s prologue and epilogue are live action sequences filmed on location at Koshu Japanese Art, the studio of Akemi Lucas, also known by her artist’s name of Koshu. Koshu designed and painted a series of calligraphic artworks representing the title, as well as the opening and closing lines of the story. She was filmed by legendary cinematographer Peter Suschitzky ASC with György László as Gaffer and Tamia Diaz as 1st AC, directed by Ilona Suschitzky and Leo Crane.
