Movement & voice

Figuration is looking for four Japanese actors to perform movement references & voiceovers for an independent animated production.

Each actor will be required to speak in Japanese (native tongue) and English (Japanese accent). Movement will be filmed and used as a guide for hand-painted animation. We are open to casting movement and voice separately and welcome performers with a physical theatre or dance background.

Deadline to apply: Sunday 13 Feburary, 5pm GMT

Recording: late Feb/earlyMarch 2022 in Crystal Palace, London.

Pay: £220 per day

About the project

The Masterpiece of Tamagata is a 15-minute animation set in 16th-century Japan. It will be hand-painted in Japanese ink with an original orchestral score. It is produced by Figuration, an award-winning non-profit studio in Crystal Palace, London. The project is funded by Arts Council England and private investment for release to festivals and museums in 2023.

Playing age: 40s-50s
Gender presentation: Male

Role 2: Shikishi (4 days)
Playing age: 40s-50s
Gender presentation: Female

Role 3: Emissary to the Shogun (2 days)
Playing age: 30s-40s
Gender presentation: Male

Role 4: Tamagata’s Father (½ day for voice)
Playing age: 60s-70s
Gender presentation: Male
